Our History

Jeffrey A. Shane, DVM started the practice in 1998 in Charlottesville Virginia. He began with a cell phone and his SUV, traveling to farms around central Virginia. James River Equine Services comes to your farm to provide veterinary care to your horses.

Today

Our friendly staff is here to assist you. Each morning Dr. Shane and Leza Sisley, his veterinary assistant, load up the truck and head out to the farms for the day’s rounds. Frequently, a pre-vet student may be riding along with them to see what it is like to be a horse doctor. Most days end back at the office to check messages, look at x-rays, run lab tests, and get ready for the next day’s calls.

Dr. Shane is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners.
