Murray Murray

Hi!  My name is Murray.  I'm the best addition to James River Equine Services.  If you ask me I play a crucial role here at the practice.  Nobody else seems to like mowing the lawn like I do.   My hobbies include eating lots of grass, escaping from my pasture and my personal favorite is wrestling with my farrier, Steve.  Dr. Shane loves having me around, no matter what he says when you ask him.  Leza is my favorite though.  She always saves me her apple core from lunch and even brings me sugar cubes.   She has been here for a while now and I have her completely trained.  When I get hungry I stand by the office door and when she gets a phone call I honk as loud as I can.  Then she comes out and feeds me my senior.
Dr. Jeff Shane Dr. Jeff Shane

Dr. Shane grew up in Colorado working on a horse and cattle ranch. His love for horses and the outdoors was combined with his wonder of nature and how things worked, when, at 12 years old, he decided  that he wanted to be a veterinarian. After gaining his Degree in Biology at Wheaton College in Illinois, he attended Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated in 1993 and practiced in a mixed animal practice for one year in North Carolina.  He and his wife, Susan, came to Charlottesville, Va in 1994. Dr. Shane was an associate veterinarian in the area for 4 years before starting his own practice in 1998. His hobbies include fly-fishing and canoeing with his wife and two children. He has a dog and two cats.

Ms. Leza Sisley Ms. Leza Sisley

Leza came to us with many years of experience working with horses and riders, both in Oregon and right here in Central Virginia. She is a valuable asset to Dr. Shane, assisting him with everything in the field including driving the truck, as well as lab work, and inventory at the office. Leza enjoys kayaking, snow boarding, and spending time with her great dog, "Shorty".  Her specialty is knowing what your pony is thinking before he does!
