Welcome to James River Equine Services Your Veterinarian in Charlottesville

Services Provided in the Central Virginia Area

Dr. Shane provides many of the same equine veterinary services that horses receive at a full-service veterinary establishment. Some of these services include:

    • Wellness exam
    • Digital radiography
    • Vaccinations
    • Field surgery
    • 24-hour emergency services
    • Lameness evaluation
    • Equine dentistry (float)
    • Artificial insemination

Dr. Shane can also do a Coggins test and issue health certificates for horses that test negative for this infectious disease. In order to make sure a horse is suitable for a new owner, Dr. Shane does a pre-purchase examination. This examination includes imaging, digital x-rays, ultrasound, and blood screening. Dr. Shane carries all the equipment to do such tests in his truck. He will also check the horse's lungs, heart, eyes, and will perform a full soundness exam.

Other types of treatment provided by Dr. Shane's mobile equine veterinary service in the central Virginia area include deworming treatment for internal parasites, treatment for infectious diseases, injury, trauma, and congenital conditions.

It's important to note that Dr. Shane only treats horses, and he provides all his veterinary care right on the farm. If other veterinary services are required, Dr. Shane will refer you to a nearby full-service veterinarian in the central Virginia area.
